Monthly Update – 22/05/2018

https://youtu.be/hjvF12TREEU

Hi everyone, Trynda here.

I’m coming to you today with an update for March and April and the beginning of May. I’m at St Boniface Cathedral sitting in the graveyard.

So, first off, it’s been a little bit crazy in my personal life so I haven’t gotten a whole lot done in terms of writing. I got a short story written called unsinkable for a short story contest for short fiction break website, so you can go ahead and check that out. I will leave a link down below in the description.

I also got direct purchasing links done on my website so you can go and directly purchase revival. Um, I think just Revival for now, but there will be more coming in the future whenever they come available for my other releases.

I also have a editing workshop at the end of May that I’m looking forward to. So I will let you guys know what I learned from that with some videos probably with my Method To My Madness series.

I will be writing something a little bit more in depth about my editing process and I’m sure it’s going to change a little bit more once I have some awesome information from that workshop.

It’s been a little bit quiet on the Patreon front just because everything’s been so busy, but I do have a few short stories coming out soon. They are just in editing and Beta reader phase so you can expect to see them soon. It’s just getting the work done. That’s taking a bit more time than I’d expect…so… soon…hopefully.

I just have to get some time to work on stuff and that’s been my biggest hurdle recently has been just getting time to actually work on stuff so hopefully you guys will see some stuff soon, but I don’t have any giveaways right now just because it’s been a bit hectic and crazy busy so I haven’t actually had a chance to set any up.

There is a writing contest for the Lake Winnipeg Writer’s group that I’ll put a link down in the description. If you’re looking to submit some short stories. This is an awesome opportunity because you can have a chance of getting published and you also get a membership for the Lake Winnipeg writer’s group, so make sure to head over to that link and check it out.

I’m also going to be coming to you with a BookBag video about the author to redefine. That was in April. I didn’t have a chance to shoot a video. I did get a few books read, which I will be talking about in that video, but I just haven’t had a chance to actually shoot the video for it so you guys can expect to see that soon. As soon as I get a chance to actually shoot the video, that video will be coming.

So I think that’s about it.

There will be some transcripts for videos going up on medium and my website as well. As soon as it gets a little less crazy in terms of my schedule on a personal front, more stuff will be coming so just hold tight for another week or so. Hopefully you guys will hear from me soon and I think that’s it. I will leave all of the links that I mentioned down below for you guys and keep an eye out.

I know that it’s been a little bit light on content, but hopefully we’ll be back to normal soon.

So I will talk to you guys later and that you have a good rest of your may long weekend.

Just a little shot, it’s nice here. Louis Riel’s grave is right there for those of you in Manitoba who know who he is.

Hi everyone, Trynda here.

Today, I’m bringing you another book bag video and I’m finally bringing you my thoughts on Twilight of Avalon and I’m also going to be touching on the Authortube Readathon that Alina Popescu started over on her channel. I’ll talk a little bit about Twilight of Avalon first and then, I will talk about what I’ll be reading for the readathon.

So, let’s get into it then.

I kind of had mixed feelings about Twilight of Avalon, it started off really good and I like the pros but I found that I was often left kind of wondering where the Tristan and Isolde storyline was, it was kind of confusing through a good portion of the book and then, near the end of it, unless I missed something, I don’t even think there was like a whole lot of romance, there was sort of romance but it seemed like it was missing a lot like I missed an entire romance scene and it was weird. I enjoyed the story but it sort of felt like there was a scene missing between Tristan and I feel like that may have been why the ending felt like it came on a little bit soon and I just set up for the second book a little sooner than I would have expected.

So, I enjoyed it for what it was, I enjoyed the story of it and I enjoyed the pros, I just was kind of confused where the whole romance triangle between Tristan and Mark came in. And u think that’s where it just felt a little bit short for me as I was expecting something and it didn’t quite meet it. I enjoyed the mix of Christian and pre-Christian ideologies that wove themselves through the book and I enjoyed how used people’s superstitions against them and it was really good character development. Otherwise, I enjoyed it. I would like to read the second one only because I want to know actually if there’s any romance but I’m left kind of feeling like I might waste my time and that’s kind of a weird feeling. I don’t get that very often.

So, now that I’m done talking about Twilight of Avalon, I’m going to move on to talking about the Authortube Readathon.

The Authortube Readathon was started by Alina Popesku and I will link her video down below. So, basically, Alina challenged the Authortube community to a series of challenges, some are on Instagram and also, some here on YouTube. So, a lot of books that I read fall into multiple categories but I picked out four that Im going to try and read over the period of, I think it was four days or six days, something crazy but I’m going to end up trying to read as many as I can in my list and if not, then those are going to be the next few books I’m going to read for my book bag series.

So, the related challenges we’ve been posed are:

  • read an history book
  • read a horror book
  • read a myth based book
  • read a paranormal or urban fantasy book
  • read a book with bad guys
  • read a sci-fi book
    and
  • read a book by an Authortuber.

So, for mystery and a book with bad guys, I chose Blood Trail by Tanya Huff and basically, this is a book about vampires and solving mysteries. So, I though it was a perfect fit for this genre of book.

This next book is for the horror genre but it’s not necessarily fiction, it’s more of a non-fiction book but I’ve really wanted to read it for a long time so I chose to put this on my list and that book is Traveling the World to find the good death by Caitlin Doughty, I think I said that right. This book is basically about death rituals around the world and it’s been something that’s really interested me because I have a bit of a morbid side all of the time and I’m really interested in how people handle their dead and show respect to those who’ve moved on from this world into another.

For my myth based and paranormal urban fantasy book, I’m going to be reading Princess Dracula by John Patrick Kennedy. I saw this book on bookbub a long time ago and I ended up picking it up and I’ve really wanted to read it and it seems like a perfect fit for the myth based stuff just because it’s based off of Dracula’s daughter in some sense from the blurb so, I really want to read it and see how somebody’s taken a new approach to the old Dracula stories. So, I’m really curious about this book.

Last but not least, I’m going to be reading Alina Popescu’s Angel’s Feather for the sci-fi and Authortube book. I really wanted to read the Flyer chronicles for a long time and it just seems like the perfect opportunity to ass this to my reading list. So, those are the next four books you guys are expected to see videos about, I put a picture up on Instagram for the books and bath bomb challenge.

I ended up taking a bath this morning with the bath bomb I got, which I’ll put a picture right up over here, and I started reading blood trial today and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I’m really excited for it because I know that this series is set of in the 90s, so there’s a lot less technology and it’s always interesting to see what kind of predicaments the characters get into just because they have no idea where each other are and they have no parking any or communicating with each other the same way cell phones let us do so, I’m really excited to see how they end up getting through their trials and that one. And I’m really excited for the other books.

So, if you enjoyed this video and you want rinse more like it, make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel and if you haven’t gotten any notifications for videos, gotten a little sparse lately but make sure to hit the bell and you will get notifications as soon as my videos go live.

If you have some recommendations to make about books, then feel free to leave them in the comments down below because I’m always looking for stuff to add to my reading list. If you haven’t checked out my Patreon yet, make sure to leave a comment down below in the description. All contributions from there goes to buying books and supporting this channel. So, it’s worthy having you looks and see if any of the videos are something that you’d be interested in.

So, I think that’s it for now everyone, I’ll let you get back to your reading and I will talk to you in the next video.

Trynda’s Bookbag | The Lovecraft Compendium & Twilight Of Avalon

[podcastplayer feed_url =’https://anchor.fm/s/241caac4/podcast/rss’ number=’1′ podcast_menu=” cover_image_url=” hide_cover=’true’ hide_description=’true’ filterby=’The Lovecraft Compendium & Twilight Of Avalon’ hide_search=’true’ hide_loadmore=’true’ ]

Hi everyone.

Trynda here, today I’m going be bringing you a book bag video where I talk about HP Lovecraft, the Lovecraft Compendium as well as Twilight of Avalon by Anna Elliot.

I started reading the Lovecraft Compendium back in October sometime and I finished it up at the beginning of November and I just haven’t had a chance to shoot a video for it. But I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I thought I would, I really couldn’t connect with a lot of the characters because they just seemed to talk down to other cultures and it didn’t really sit well with me, I knew going into HP Lovecraft Compendium, what kind of writer he was and I thought that I could kind of get past it but it really just stuck with me and rub me the wrong way. I like how he often chose academically driven characters that were interested to know more about this culture of this like squid monsters but they always came off condescending and just downright disrespectful to other cultures and that didn’t sit well with me even remotely. I think of the short stories that were included in this collection, I really like The Call Of Cthulhu the best, it still had those same things that I didn’t really enjoy very much from the others but for the most part, that was really the only one I enjoyed and near the end, I was kind of just pushing through just to be done with it because I wasn’t enjoying it at that point.

All in all, I’m glad to have read this Lovecraft compendium but it didn’t really sit well with me and I probably won’t read H.P. Lovecraft’s work again.

So now that I’m done with the Lovecraft compendium, I’m actually going to be reading Twilight of Avalon by Anna Elliot instead of Victoria and this is because I’m going to be working on the draft for Time to let go instead of On Fallen wings and I wanted something that had more of a Tristan in his old field because that’s what the main characters are kind of based off of in my work in progress and not so much of a strong queen-like female protagonist that On Fallen wings has. I really wanted to get my head in the Tristan in his old theme so, that’s why I’m going to be going with this one instead.

So, I think that’s it for now guys, if you like this video, make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel for more like them. If you have a recommendation that you’d like me to check out, then feel free to leave a comment down below. And I’ll leave links to all the books that I mentioned here today. And I think that’s it.

So, I’ll talk to you guys next time.

Back with another Book bag video after finishing The Lovecraft Compendium in November. In this episode I talk about my thoughts on The Lovecraft Compendium and Twilight Of Avalon jumping to the next book I’ll be reading.

Hi everyone, Trynda here.

Today, I’m bring you a BookBag video where I’ll be talking about Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, I started this book a few months back and I just haven’t had that much time to read over the summer but I finally got around finishing it and now, I’m gonna talk about it.

If you’re not too sure what Neverwhere is, it’s basically an urban fantasy set in London where Richard Mathew, a regular everyday man is kind of pulled into this underground London society that is based around magic and the feudal system.

I couldn’t really connect with Richard very much, I didn’t understand why he didn’t want to go back to a fiancée that didn’t treat him very well, and I could understand why he wanted to go home but it just felt like a lot of time he was blundering through when he was smarter than how he was acting. I really liked Door, I really wish that we could have seen more from her perspective and just see how she felt about the London Underground and i just wanted to learn more about her and her past and more about what she thought about the everyday life that she knew opposed to Richard who was thrown into something unusual.

All in all, I really like the book and I’m glad to have read it, I just wish that there was less of head hopping and the main character of Richard was a little bit more relatable in the sense that he was actually working to go home towards something that actually mattered and it would have made Richard seem a little more believable to me because it just didn’t make sense that he was going to return to someone who just didn’t deserve him in the first place.

Next on my to be read list is the H.P. Lovecraft compendium and I’m really looking forward to reading this because I’ve never actually read any of H.P. Lovecraft’s work so, I’m really excited to get into all the stories that people always talk about. I think that’s it for this week’s video so, I will talk to you guys next week. If you like this video make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel for more videos like it. If you disagreed or wanna talk to me about anything I said in the video, leave a comment in the comment section down below and I’d love to chat about it. If you haven’t checked out my Patreon, I suggest heading over there, I put out short stories, worldbuilding and behind the scenes content for all my writing. So check that out, it might be something that you’re interested in.

If you’re looking for something quick to read you can check out my mailing list and get a short story or you can check out Revival prologue, it’s available for free at the link down below and I think that’s it for now guys.

So, I will talk to you guys later.

Hi everyone, Trynda here.

Today, I’m bringing you a TBR video and what to expect in the coming month for what I’m gonna be reading. It’s possible that things will squeeze in between these things but this is kind of the part I’m gonna be taking from the books that I want to read and that I really kind of think that will impact the things I’m going to be writing in the next future. For sure, you can expect this but if there’s any changes, you can find them in my Book Bag series and I will link that down below in the description. So, let’s get to it.

Right now, I’m reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman which you can find out a little bit about my reason behind it in the Book Bag series.

The next book I’m thinking of reading is the Lovecraft compendium by H.P. Lovecraft. Just because I want to get a fuel for a darker literature and things that might impact the way I write darker scenes and I think this will be a good one to kind of keep on my radar especially since it’s not too many pages and I can probably chew through it pretty quickly.

The next one after that is Victoria by Daisy Goodwin. The reason I wanna read this one is because I think Queen Victoria’s personality will be a good influence for Larathel who is my main character of On Fallen wings and you can find a little bit more about her in the work in progress tag that I did a videos back. Larathel is a very strong leader and so is Queen Victoria and I think there was a lot of similarities so, I think this will be a good book to read to kind of get my head in the mindset of Queen Victoria or a regal personality for my main character.

The next book I’d like to read after that would be the Wedding Shroud by Elizabeth Storrs. I’d like to read this one just so I can finish off a novella set in Ancient Rome and I think it will be a good book to kind of get my inspiration going for that as I do a few more edits on it and possibly add a few more scenes to make things make sense. Who knows? It may actually end up being a full like novel with the way that it’s going.

And after that, I’d like to read Way of Spears by Natalia Leigh. It’s been on my list to read for a while and I think it would be a good way to just kind of dip my toe into the high fantasy genre and get into it a little bit more.

And after that, I’d like to read Twilight of Avalon by Anna Elliot, the reason for this one is I wrote a novel about Tristan and Azold back in April for Camp NaNoWriMo and by the time I’m getting to that book, I’m likely going to get time to edit that novel and I’d like to get back into the head space of Tristan and Azold and their love story and a few other details surrounding that era and the mentality of thinking so, I really want to read that one and kind of get my head space back into that as I’m doing my edits for my Time to Let Go manuscript.

So that’s it for now guys, I will put all of the links in the description down below. If you liked what you saw, make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel and if you have any ideas or you’ve read these books or you have recommendations for me, then feel free to leave them in the comments down below. Revival Episode 2 is now available for purchase and you can also preorder Revival Episode 3.

Trynda’s Bookbag | Gone Girl & Neverwhere

[podcastplayer feed_url =’https://anchor.fm/s/241caac4/podcast/rss’ number=’1′ podcast_menu=” cover_image_url=” hide_cover=’true’ hide_description=’true’ filterby=’Gone Girl & Neverwhere’ hide_search=’true’ hide_loadmore=’true’ ]

Hey everyone.

Trynda here, Bringing you a Book bag video about Fahrenheit 451, Gone Girl And Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

I really enjoyed Fahrenheit 451 and I thought that it had a lot of interesting parallels to our modern day society even though it was written back in the 50s.

And if you’re interested in how technology impacts the way we’re in trap with the world, I would definitely recommend it for you.

The first book I’m going to talk about is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

I’m having a hard time getting through it because I don’t like Amy’s character, I didn’t like her in the movie and I don’t like her in the book because she’s just an untrustworthy person and untrustworthy people just don’t sit well with me.

And that just makes me drag through the scenes that they’re in.

I’m really enjoying Nick’s perspectives and seeing Nick and Amy’s perspective side by side are really interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing how Gillian pulled off the ending.

So, I am looking forward to finishing it, I just have to push through the scenes that I find that I don’t like very much.

And next on my reading list is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

I’ve heard a lot about Neverwhere and I’ve never had a chance to read any of Neil’s work so, I though that this will be a good chance to familiarize myself with the urban fantasy with only a little bit more outside of the paranormal fantasy with vampires that I’m usually reading.

So, that’s it for now guys.

If you like what you saw, make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel for more videos.

If you’d like to suggest some books for me to read in the future, feel free to leave them in the comments down below.

By the time you’re seeing this, Revival Episode 2 will be available for Patreons for free and to purchase via Amazon or your favorite distributor.

I will put in link in the cards and down below in the description so, make sure to check all of that out and I will talk to you guys later.

Hi everyone.

Trynda here, Wanted to bring you a video about what I’m reading right now.

Usually, what I read is related to what I’m working on and in the past, I was reading books about Ancient Rome because I was writing a novella about couple of vampires that were making their way through it.

I’ve recently put it on the back burner but I’m still going to finish up this book that I’m reading right now which is SPQR by Mary Beard.

It’s a book about Ancient Rome obviously, and it’s been pretty good.

I’ve really enjoyed reading it.

When I found this book, I had to read it because I knew that she was very good at balancing what was familiar and what was not familiar when she was talking about stuff in her documentaries.

So, for anyone who’s researching Ancient Rome, I definitely recommend checking out some of her stuff.

Simon Clarke did a pretty good video about the summary and kind of what SPQR is about so, I’ll link it up here and down below as well so you can go and have a look at that.

I’m about halfway done SPQR but I’m going to be starting Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn in a little bit here for Camp NaNoWriMo and what I’m writing during that.

I’ve been wanting to read Gone Girl ever since I saw the movie a few years back so, I thought now, since I’m going to write a suspense, that it would be a good a time as any.

So, that’s it for now guys.

I’ll talk to you guys later.
